Lithuanian farmers and greens party in corporation with Latvian, Belarus and Russian green activists participated in the “Anti-Nuclear” rally-caravan. The event started in the early morning of 14th of March in the second largest Latvia city, Daugavpils and ended in capital of Lithuania, Vilnius. The purpose of the action was to build public awareness of the Nuclear power plant projects in all three countries – Lithuania, Belarus and Kaliningrad.

The “Stop Baltic Fukushima” trip, also, took place in Ignalina, the regional city which used the same name as old nuclear plant, closed down two year ago. Ignalina’s major Bronis Rope met the activists of the caravan. The Major was pleased by the activity of Latvian greens. “ People of Ignalina as the most of Lithuanians are against the building of new nuclear plant and would prefer the development of alternative energy” – stated B. Rope

At the final point of the anti-nuclear caravan was organized a rally by the parliament of Lithuania in Vilnius. During the rally Latvian green and youth activists brought yellow barrels with the atomic waste signs. Also, they had a poster with the title “Stop Baltic Fukushima”.

“We are against all three projects of nuclear power plants in Baltic region. By this action we want to show our position and increase public awareness about the nuclear waste disposal issue” – emphasized Tomas Tomilinas, the vise-president of Lithuanian farmers and greens party.
